. . Contributed By Hans Michael WagnerOn Thursday, August 20, 1998
I am looking for anyone who served with Merl at Con Thien. We were best friends in high school and joined the USMC on the buddy plan. I was south of Da Nang when he was hit by incoming. Merl and I are from Mission, Texas, where he is buried. We were in platoon 171 in San Diego in 1965. Merl was in artillary - 105's at Lejune and Con Thien. I would like to talk to any of his buddies from Con Thien, especially anyone who was there on 8/28/67. I was in HMM 263 & HMM 165 - door gunner.

POW/MIAs

Note from the WebMaster

This database is an accurate reflection of the official Government database. If you want to request changes, email me and I will provide the address to the proper authorities. After they make the changes, the corrections will show up on this page.

Three POW/MIAs listed as Killed in your database are actually still MIA! This is a travesty! SFC Alan Lee Boyer, LTC David Louis Hrdlicka, and COL Notley Gwynn Maddox are STILL MIA, NOT KIA as you state! We personally know two of these MIA families. Alan Boyer went missing in Laos 23 March 1968. You state that as when his tour of duty began. Alan was a 22 year old Green Beret who had been in-country since October 1967. There was no helicopter crash. There was an attempted rescue when their reconnaissance team came under enemy fire. The helicopter could not land because of rough terrain, and the rope ladder either broke or was shot away, leaving 3 U.S. servicemen behind. When a second rescue was attempted two days later, no one was found. SFC Alan Lee Boyer is still listed on The Wall as MIA, and we still hope for his return! Also COL David Hrdlicka is STILL MIA, NOT KIA! We know his wife, and she is an articulate, active spokeswoman for the plight of our POW/MIAs. If you want to read the story of David Hrdlicka, the true story, go to http://www.aiipowmia.com/vva_hrdlicka.html Also, the date you have for 'tour of dute began' for David, 18 May 1965, is actually the datehe became Missing in Action. I'm sure your intentions are good, but we need to shed light on the plight of our men who still may be Prisoners of War. Please do not kill them prematurely! I trust this will be corrected promptly.
