26 GP, 39 Trans, 666 Trans

I was a platoon leader in the 666 Trans from 11/70 to 9/71. I lost a member of my platoon in a rocket attack on a convoy in early 1971. I you like to find any information you may have. The name I remember for this soldier is incorrec6t, as it does not match the wall. Also, several years after Vietnam, I saw a Tom Hanks movie called SPLASH. There is a major scene at the end of the movie wherein, Hanks is being pursued by hundreds of soldiers and numerous army vehicles. I was stunned to notice that they were all properly marked with 26 GP. 39 Trans Bn. 666th Co. If anyone knows the history of how these truck and jeeps ended up with my company markings, I would like to know.

To the family/friends of Joseph Jacobs, Northridge, CA, I have a photograph I would love to give to you. Over the years, I've attempted to reach family members in the Southern California area, but have had no success. Joseph, or "Joe", was a Stanford graduate, had a twin brother and his parents were in the medical field. Hope this note finds family survivors or at least someone who knew this fine young man.

POEM
. . Contributed By Chuck WalshOn Friday, July 31, 1998
Does anyone remeber or have the poem about the son that writes home, about how beautiful it is, and the funny monkeys? Only to have his father tell him to be honest, so he was, and told about what really was happenening, the father wrote back, please stop, you are upsetting your mother, so the next letter he wrote, sure is beautiful here, you should see the funny monkeys. I have looked for this for years. I think it sums up what the world really thought about the war at the time, and just really didn't want to know. If you have this, please send me a copy, thank you.

Location / Background info on Sgt. Bennie Dexter

I have been wearing my POW/MIA braclet on my wrist for aprox. 15years without taking it off. It has become a part of my life since receiving it in the 70's in High School. It is a daily reminder of vietnam and the men that were left behind never to return and only remembered by the few who care.
