MAJOR MICHAEL D. O'DONNELL, USA, MIA 24 MARCH 1970
. . Contributed By Alex Villalva On 12/15/97:
Seeking any vets/personnel who served with/knew Mike while with the 140th AHC, the "Bikinis", operating out of Pleiku. Mike was the bird AC, when it was shot down as he was extracting a SOG team out of Ratankiri Province, Cambodia. All aboard were lost/MIA (7 Americans total: aircrew/SOG team). For his intrepid valor, Mike was nominated for the CMH, but it never materialized.Mike hailed from Springfield, ILL, and while in-country,he wrote exceptional poetry, and was an accomplished singer and guitarist. I discovered Mike's poetry in the tremendous book "Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam" while in High School in 1988, and since, have always kept his memory alive within me through his poetry.Further, I'vefollowed the U.S. Government's efforts to excavate his crash site in Cambodia.I wish to confer with any who served with/knew him, so that I may better know this man, and keep his memory, sacrifices, and honor unforgotten. At least in the heart of this young soldier, Iwill not forget the valiant actions ofMike and his Huey crew.
